THE TOTAL BEGINNERS COURSE

This course is taught by a Pilates Foundation Teacher. It aims to take a group of total beginners through the main principles of Pilates exercise. These principles include flexibility, posture and alignment, corseting of the back and abdominals, control of movements, concentration, relaxation and breathing. Each principle is introduced gradually and built upon week by week so that by the end of the course the participant should have a clear understanding of all the principles and of how they can be achieved successfully.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand the concept of neutral spine and be able to put it into practice.
  • Master the principle of corseting using pelvic floor, deep abdominal & back muscles.
  • Get to know specific Pilates exercises.
  • Learn to stabilize the pelvis, shoulder girdle and neck.
  • Discover the principles of breathing into the ribs and back.
  • Look at ways to improve the posture.
  • Work on the flexibility of the spine.
  • Learn some simple relaxation techniques.
  • Have an understanding of individual strengths and weaknesses and be equipped to confidently join continuation Pilates classes.
  • The Next Course

    The next 10-week total beginners' courses start in  September 2008. The start dates and times are Wednesday 24th September at 7 pm and Tuesday 30th September at 6.30 pm. The other beginner classes are full.

    If you do not wish to wait until the next course it may be possible to join an existing class by first attending some one to one sessions. Phone us for more information.
